SISS serves over 1,700 UC Davis international students from all over the world.  One of the most important roles for SISS is to assist international students in obtaining and maintaining the appropriate legal status and employment authorization.  SISS also provides students an orientation to the University system, the campus, and to the community.

If you are thinking of applying to UC Davis, there are a full range of degree programs for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Students should know that there are several other departments within the Division of Student Affairs that are here to help all students have a successful academic experience.  SISS also works closely with International House to address the needs of international students and their families while they are at UC Davis.

Where is my I-20? I-20/DS-2019 Information

SISS has begun processing new requests for I-20's or DS-2019's for fall 2008 students . If you are a new student beginning in September 2008, SISS will not be able to process your I-20/DS-2019 request until all of the required documentation have been received. You may want to send your documents by way of express mail to assure a timely delivery. If you are planning to attend Summer Session click here for more information.

We understand that you are anxious about receiving your I-20 or DS-2019 for your visa interview. If you need to contact the office, it is strongly advised that you email SISS (siss@ucdavis.edu) and your international student advisor will contact you promptly.

Prospective Student Information

Most international students coming to Davis will require an F-1 student visa.  Some students will be eligible for a J-1 student visa.  To be eligible for the J-1 student visa a substantial portion of your financial support must be from a scholarship, fellowship or assistantship from an external funding source, for example, your home government or a corporate sponsor.  Students with only personal or family funding are NOT eligible for J-1 status.

SEVIS

SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is an internet-based system that allows universities and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)--a part of the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)--to exchange information on the visa status of international students.  US consulates and embassies, as well as other US government agencies will have access to this information.

Consular Post Processing Times

The Department of State is now providing consular post processing times on-line to assist visa applicants plan for visa processing delays abroad.

The Department of State website provides visa applicants with an average wait time to obtain a visa interview (which is now required for all H, O, J, F applicants) and the average wait time for a nonimmigrant visa to be processed at individual consular posts.

These are estimates only and government processing times are always subject to change.  Planning ahead and applying as early as possible is always recommended.

In addition to checking processing times, all visa applicants should thoroughly review the visa instructions and procedures at the specific post where he or she will be applying.

***AS ALWAYS, WE RECOMMEND THAT STUDENTS CONTACT SISS PRIOR TO ANY INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL.***
