SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is a web-based system that allows the US Department of Homeland Security to track and monitor the status and activities of nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors who enter the United States. SISS is required to maintain a SEVIS record for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors (students and scholars) that are sponsored by UC Davis.  U.S. Consulates and Embassies, as well as other U.S. government agencies have access to this information. 

SISS uses SEVIS to create the I-20 and DS-2019 forms that are required to apply for a F-1 or J-1 visa.
