Expectations for F-1 and J-1 Students
To be successful as an international student at UC Davis, I understand that:
- I must register for and complete a minimum of 12 units each quarter per United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations. Furthermore, no more than one online/virtual class or three online units will be counted toward the 12-unit minimum requirement.
- I will not engage in unauthorized paid or unpaid (volunteer) off-campus employment, understanding that such action may result in the termination of my immigration status.
- I am required to have health insurance or else risk being dropped from my classes, which may result in violating my immigration status.
- I must pay all fees and tuition costs that are in effect when I register for classes each term in full by the payment deadline or else risk being dropped from my classes, which may result in violating my immigration status.
- I will complete the SISS Arrival Orientation online module by the deadline or risk having a registration hold placed on my student record. Details will be emailed to my UC Davis email.
- I must update my current address and telephone number in the United States via iGlobal within 10 days of the change of address or telephone number.
- My passport must be valid for at least six months into the future during my stay in the United States.
- I must keep my I-20/DS-2019 updated and current with respect to ending dates, changes of major, changes of program level (Bachelor’s to Master’s), funding, dependents, and so on.
- I must get a travel signature on page one of my I-20 or on page one of my DS-2019 from SISS prior to re-entering the United States. I understand that travel signatures are valid for one year (six months on OPT), and I must request an additional signature when the old signature expires.
- If I experience academic difficulty, I will immediately schedule an appointment to meet with both my SISS International Student Advisor and Dean’s Office International Academic Advisor or Graduate Program Coordinator.
- If I violate my immigration status, I must leave the United States immediately.
- If I have questions about the information on this agreement, I will schedule an appointment with an international
student advisor at SISS.
Although the SISS staff is highly knowledgeable in immigration regulatory issues and can assist with processing immigration documents, we do not provide legal advice. You are expected to read and understand these expectations and take responsibility to comply with USCIS regulations and UC Davis policy.
