Emergency Contact Information

Contacting SISS when the Office is Closed

SISS is closed on weekends, University Holidays and the days between Christmas and New Year's Day. All holidays are listed on the campus Academic and Administrative Calendar.

In case of an emergency when the office is closed, you can call 530-752-1727 (UC Davis Police Dispatcher). Calls will be routed to the appropriate SISS staff member.

This emergency contact number can be used in the following emergency situations:

  • An urgent situation at a U.S. port of entry (such as secondary inspection or detainment).
  • An urgent situation at a U.S. embassy or consulate that requires SISS assistance.
  • An arrest by law enforcement.
  • When prevented from boarding a flight, where there could be a misunderstanding by airline staff.

Leaving the U.S. and need a travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019?

The need for a travel signature is not considered an emergency.

Plan ahead when making your travel plans and request your travel signature in iGlobal in advance of your departure. Email your SISS advisor if you find that you must leave the United States without a travel signature or have already left the United States. Remember, you will only need the travel signature when entering the country; you are free to leave at any time.

SISS will issue your I-20/DS-2019 electronically and digitally sign it for travel, so you can download the document in iGlobal and print it after departing the U.S.

What to do if you are returning to the United States without a valid travel signature:

  • Take your unsigned I-20/DS-2019 with you. When you reenter the United States, explain that you were not able to obtain a travel signature. You may be allowed to enter after being issued Form I-515A. Please contact your SISS advisor immediately after entering the U.S. if you received this form. It will require you to complete some additional paperwork to stay in legal status. If you try this, it will be important that you carry with you documents that confirm your purpose in the United States.
    • Students at UC Davis, for example, should carry recent transcripts and/or proof of class registration. You should be able to download some of this from SISWEB.
    • Scholars at UC Davis, for example, should email their departments to get an electronic copy of a travel support letter explaining that they are expected back at UC Davis to continue their research/teaching on a specific date. Print out the letter to carry with you.  If you are employed by UC Davis, you can also download employment verification from UC Path showing temporary employment to carry with you.
