Two International Students Selected as 2022 UC Davis Grad Slam Finalists
Quick. Summarize your thesis in three minutes. That is the challenge of UC Grad Slam, the annual competition where masters and Ph.D. students throughout the University of California system come together to refine their public speaking skills, craft compelling presentations, and distill years of meticulous research into 180 seconds or less.
Grad Slam Events
UC Davis will hold the 2022 Grad Slam semi-final round on April 8 from 1–3 p.m. in the Graduate Center at Walker Hall.

UC Grad Slam finals will take place on May 6.
UC Davis Graduate Studies recently announced the ten finalists who will face off with live presentations at UC Davis Grad Slam on April 8. This year, two of the ten UC Davis Grad Slam finalists are international students:
- Lo-Wei Lin, an international student from Taiwan and Ph.D. candidate in pharmacology and toxicology, will present “Look out! The smoky orange sky is harmful to your skin”
- Jaihan Zou, an international student from China and Ph.D. candidate in biological systems engineering, will present “Novel Cooling Media: Cooler Than Ice”
Finalists can win up to $2,500 and the winner will represent UC Davis in the final round of the competition, where they will face off against finalists from the other nine UC campuses.
In addition, in partnership with Graduate Studies, Global Affairs recently selected Zou and three other finalists, Alice Dien, Paige Kouba and William Turner IV, as recipients of the Global Education for All designation.
